Greeting

・Bow when you make greetings like “おはようございます (ohayogozaimasu),” “こんにちは (konnichiwa),” “こんばんは (konbanwa),” “さようなら (sayonara),” “よろしくお願いします (yoroshiku onegaishimasu),” etc.
・You may be asked to shake hands at first, but hugging is not common in Japan.

★Types of bow★
・Ordinary bow is said to be at a 15-degree angle.
・When you make a mistake at work and needs to make an apology, it is said to be appropriate to bow at a 45-degree angle for 3 seconds or more.
・At a department store and other similar establishments, shopclerks bow by placing the left hand on top of the right hand. It is a sign of friendship (not hostile).
