Unit 3

「これ (This)」⇒ a demonstrative used to point to something close to the speaker.

「それ (It)」⇒ is used for something close to the listener.

「あれ (That)」⇒ is used for something that is far from both the speaker and the listener.





 

1. これはプレゼントです。

   This is a gift ／present. 

2. それはパソコンのざっしです。

   It is a PC magazine.

3. あれは田中さんのかさです。

   That is Tanaka’s umbrella.

4. これはチョコレートですか。

   Is this a chocolate?

5. それはワンさんのカメラですか。

   Is it Mr.／Ms. Wang’s camera?

6. あれは駅ですか。

   Is that a train station?

✔ 「この／その／あの 」is used to express 「the owner of something」.
Eg.：　これは 本です。これは　ワンさんのです。
　  　           　↓
　　　この　本 は　　ワンさんの　　です。
　　　　もの　　　　 　人

1. このノートはワンさんのです。

   This is Wang’s notebook.

2. そのバッグはゴメスさんのです。

   It is Gomez’s bag.

3. あのジュースは田中さんのです。

   That is Tanaka’s juice.

✔ Expression used to ask about the ownership of something by someone. Use demonstrative （これ／それ／あれ） in the answer

例:　バッグが、たくさんあります。田中さんのバッグがわかりません。
Eg.: There are many bags. I don’t know which one is Tanaka’s.

A:　田中さんのバッグは どれですか。
A:    Which bag is Mr./Ms. Tanaka’s?
B:　これです。
B:    This one.
　　　　　　　↓
A：田中さん　 のは  　どれですか。
A:    Which one is Mr./Ms. Tanaka’s? 
B：これです。　　
B:    This one.

1. A：田中さんのはどれですか。
   B：これです。

   A：Which one is Mr./Ms. Tanaka’s?
   B：This one. 

2. A：マリアさんのはどれですか。
   B：それです。

   A：Which one is Maria’s?
   B：That one.

3. A：私たちのはどれですか。
   B：あれです。

   A：Which one is ours?
   B：That one.
